Brigid, 95, was living in a four-bedroomed house in Essex, but the stairs had become a real challenge for her due to her mobility issues. Brigid’s son, Brian, and daughter-in-law, Barbara, live in Bedfordshire and watched Chamomile Gardens being built. They thought it was the perfect place for Brigid.
Brian: “We were very lucky to find this place so close to where we live. We had a look round, took lots of photos and showed Mum a slideshow, suggesting that she might like to think about a move.”
Brigid did just that, and moved into her two bedroomed, ground-floor apartment in January 2023, describing it as her “Home from home”.
“It’s beyond my expectations in every way. It’s bright and roomy and there’s so much air and light. It’s so beautiful, my visitors think it looks like a 5-star hotel!
“It’s just like home, and I felt that way from day one. I feel settled, very contented and completely at ease here.
“My family are all on the doorstep too – we’ve now got four generations living within four miles of each other.
“There are people around me, should I need them, and I feel safe and secure. The staff are wonderful.
“The nicest thing of all, is that it’s so peaceful. I’d always been afraid of storms, but here, I’ve slept through them!
“Geraldine and Alison in Grand Union’s sales team were a fantastic support and the staff in the office here make you feel very welcome; they smile and wave when I go past and call to check if I want to join in any of the social events, which I do, when I feel up to it.
“I’d highly recommend it here!”
