It often feels like therapy gliding up and down the swimming pool, the more lengths
achieved the more clarity seems to engulf you. Swimming on a regular basis for just
thirty minutes two or three times per week can boost your overall wellbeing. What’s not
to love?
Let’s take a closer look at some of the benefits of donning your favourite swimwear and
immersing yourself in the nearest pool.
We all know that looking after your holistic being – mind, body and soul are of great
importance and swimming can provide all of that. Swimming provides a wonderful full-
body workout, which simultaneously is very easy on your joints as the water supports
your body. This can really help people with injuries, joint problems or arthritis as it’s so
low impact.
The social connections formed whilst swimming regularly are extremely powerful as it
can reduce social isolation and build lasting relationships. Remember that when you are
gliding up and down the pool, the repetitive movements combined with your rhythmic
breathing can have a calming and meditative effect much like that experienced when you
practice yoga or meditation and in turn reducing anxiety and stress.
Swimming regularly is known to improve the quality of your sleep and aids a more
restful, nourishing night, helping you to wake up feeling refreshed, inspired and ready to
take on the day. Taking to the pool also builds cardiovascular endurance, improves your
flexibility and strengthens muscles throughout your body. All of which contributes to
living a more fulfilled, energised and joyful life.
The next time you feel like you could do with lifting your spirits pack your swimming
bag and head to the nearest pool. Spending time in the pool releases endorphins which
boost your mood and who knows who you will meet with similar interests.
Enjoy!
