DREAM OF MOVING FROM READING TO LIVE BY THE SEA IN CORNWALL COMES TRUE FOR DEBBIE

The dream of moving from Reading to Cornwall and living by the sea has come true for homeowner Debbie Andrews after she bought a brand-new home at Blackberry Lane, bunnyhomes’ new neighbourhood at Kilkhampton located on the north Cornish coast, close to the Devon border.
Debbie had already sold her family home in Reading where her children had grown up and had been researching properties with a view to downsizing, living in Cornwall and ultimately retiring there. Debbie’s searches had found the new homes at Blackberry Lane so when she next visited Cornwall on holiday, she decided to take a look and soon found it had everything she needed.
Debbie explains: “Although my first thoughts were to stay close to my children in Reading, especially as I also have a young grandchild, I was struggling to find something I liked there that was affordable. Blackberry Lane appeared to be the ideal location for me and would be great for my family to come and visit with a straightforward drive to and from Reading via the M4, M5 and A39.
“As Kilkhampton is on the county border I can appreciate all the beauty of North Devon, yet it’s located just inside Cornwall, so I’m close to lovely beaches too. I knew this would be a better life for me – when I got back to Reading it was so busy, so noisy and fast.”
Of course, it wasn’t just the location that had to meet Debbie’s expectations. The new homes and the overall feeling of Blackberry Lane had to be just right too. Debbie was shown the new homes by Faye, a member of bunnyhomes’ sales team, who was happy to help and answer any questions. “I didn’t feel any pressure,” adds Debbie. “Faye discussed the difference between each property I was looking at and she was friendly and knowledgeable.”
Having visited and seen the showhomes and walked around the new neighbourhood, Debbie chose a semi-detached Rose Cottage house style – a lovely three-bedroom home with excellent accommodation. “It is the perfect size,” says Debbie. “And the master bedroom with an ensuite makes life easier when family come and stay as there are no queues for the bathroom. It has a lovely garden, a garage and a garden room. It is just right.”
And having previously bought two brand new homes, Debbie was already aware of the process of buying new and had a strong reference point of what to expect. She said: “I was so pleased with the specifications of the homes at Blackberry Lane, its location, and the fact there are a small number of new homes here rather than a big estate. I have brought two brand new homes before, and Rose Cottage is definitely superior.”
Debbie also appreciates the additional benefits of buying a new home instead of a second hand one, saying: “I like the idea of the security of buying a new home with a 10-year NHBC builders guarantee. I also like the air sourced heat pump instead of gas central heating, and that bunnyhomes has really considered modern living in terms of fast internet and plenty of USB plugs. What’s more, I have space for an office to work from home, a bigger garden than you’d find in most new homes, a garage and plenty of parking.”
The energy efficiency rating of the new homes was also something Debbie took into consideration. All the new homes in bunnyhomes’ Craft Collection are built to a high rating, achieved through traditional build methods and a fabric-first approach to construction which sets bunnyhomes’ Craft Collection apart.
While Debbie is well versed in the process of buying a brand-new home, she also found buying new from bunnyhomes was straightforward and that the team was really helpful, saying: “Any difficulties that I did have with the buying process appeared to relate to my solicitor and bunnyhomes were helpful and supportive with all the queries and they were able to answer any questions I had for them very quickly. When I was given the keys to my new home, I was greeted by one of the sales team and the site manager who showed me round and answered all of my queries and I felt really welcomed and supported.
“I definitely recommend bunnyhomes – the sales team are so friendly and helpful and they are lovely homes. I can’t fault the sales team in their support and I am pleased and proud of my new home. Several friends have come and stayed, and they have all said how much they like my new home. Some of these friends would definitely let me know if they didn’t’ like it!”
Now Debbie has settled into her new home and achieved her dream of living close to the sea in Cornwall she has no regrets. “I was surprised by how much I love my new home and I settled in so quickly it just feels like home,” she adds. “I just love the quiet and that I am so close to the sea with a choice of so many beaches. Blackberry Lane and Rose Cottage are perfect for me. I have already made new friends here and I will create memories with my family and friends for many more years to come.”
The three-bedroom Rose Cottage is one of bunnyhomes’ Georgian-inspired Craft Collection homes, an exceptional range of new homes which excels in design and specification as standard.
All the homes in the Craft Collection include a dedicated office or workspace making them an excellent choice for people who work from home. Some, like Debbie’s Rose Cottage, include a garden room as part of the garage, while others have a dedicated ‘magic room’ included on the ground floor, so-called as it can be used however the homeowner sees fit.
There are a limited number of new homes remaining at Blackberry Lane but bunnyhomes is pleased to announce a second new neighbourhood of a select number of homes at Kilkhampton at Bramble Lane, coming soon, and at The Watchmaker’s which launched at Bodmin at Easter.
