DORSET NURSE AND CANCER CHARITY FOUNDER FINDS OWN ‘HAVEN’ AT QUARTER JACK PARK IN WIMBORNE

A nurse who’s spent her career looking after others and co-founded a charity supporting Dorset residents with cancer, has found her own piece of calm at a brand-new Barratt Homes development in Wimborne.
Leslie-May Harrison has been a nurse for more than 40 years and has specialised in breast cancer care since 2001. The inspiring woman also co-founded a Dorset charity which is helping cancer patients who are experiencing financial hardship in the region.
Now a part-time district nurse in Dorchester, the caring individual wanted her own ‘little haven’ away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The grandmother was won over by the leading housebuilder’s Quarter Jack Park development in Wimborne, which boasts more than 42 acres of green space on the doorstep.
Previously living on Bournemouth’s seafront, an area that has become busier over the years, Leslie-May was set on buying a new-build property in a quieter location.
She said: “I wanted a new home in a peaceful area closer to the countryside, and, as soon I looked around Quarter Jack Park, I knew it was perfect. I looked around the variety of properties on offer and the Barratt Kingsville home, which was in a small cul-de-sac on the development, was ideal. I couldn’t wait to move in.”
Moving into her new house in March, the cancer nurse is now living in a tranquil part of the new community. Delighted with her brand-new home, Leslie-May is also thrilled to be near to her two children and 14-month-old granddaughter.
She added: “My new home feels so peaceful and I already feel really happy here. Being close to my family is a real bonus and I now have plenty of space for visitors, including my granddaughter, Elise.”
Barratt’s four-bedroom Kingsville design is the new home for Leslie-May. This property has a light and spacious kitchen with French doors opening onto the garden. On the ground floor there is also a cloakroom, storage cupboard and a fourth bedroom or study. On the first floor, there’s an en suite main bedroom and lounge. The top floor has a further double bedroom, single bedroom, and family bathroom.
Leslie added: “The Kingsville is light and airy and has more than enough space for me and my family. I can’t wait to start making it my own.”
Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, said: “Quarter Jack Park offers a variety of homes in a fantastic location, and I’m thrilled to hear that Leslie-May has found a special place just for her here. To hear about all the work she’s doing to help people diagnosed with cancer in the area, is incredible, and I wish her all the best.”
Leslie-May has been supporting those with cancer all her career and co-founded her charity in 2013. Since then, The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation has provided over £715,000 in financial assistance to Dorset residents who are experiencing financial hardship due to the disease. Barratt Homes has agreed to show its support for the charity and is currently looking at options as to how the developer can help.
Barratt Homes’ Quarter Jack Park is a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes in the charming town of Wimborne. The development benefits from more than 42 acres of green open space on the doorstep, accompanied by community facilities. Schools, shops, family friendly restaurants are all nearby, along with seamless road links to Bournemouth, Poole, and Southampton.
