UK’s leading garden centre launch over 100 varieties of own brand Roses

Dobbies is delighted to announce the launch of their first own-brand Rose collection this spring, featuring over 100 varieties

Not your average garden centre, the expert team has carefully curated the collection to ensure there is something for everyone. A classic garden favourite, there are a whole host of fragrances and styles, contemporary and traditional; easy to grow and look after in borders, pots, walls and fences or ground cover.

Horticultural Director at Dobbies Garden Centres, Marcus Eyles, who worked to develop the new collection, said,

“As one of the UK’s best-loved flowers, roses will add a charming country feel to your garden and these glorious blooms are much easier to grow than you think. You don’t need a huge garden with space for rose beds or a climbing arch, as they will happily grow in containers, making them perfect for patios and balconies. We have worked hard to make this our best selection of roses yet and to make sure there is something for everyone.”

Marcus’ general planting, growing and care tips to keep roses blooming at their best…

  • Container grown roses can be planted all-year-round, as long as the ground isn’t frozen so avoid in the depths of cold winters.
  • Roses are easy to grow in any fertile well-drained soil, they will even grow well in heavier clay soils. They will grow best in an open sunny position but can tolerate light shade.
  • Roses are hungry plants, so for healthy growth and lots of blooms feed each spring with granular rose fertiliser forked into the surrounding soil. Cover with a layer of manure to help retain moisture.
  • Prune with secateurs each winter to keep their shape and encourage new shoots. Remove any dead, diseased, or damaged stems, cutting remaining stems back to a strong outward facing bud.
